France2030 “Code4Goods” Project Approved: Over 5 Million Euros Allocated to Transform Medical Logistics Through Drone Integration in U-space and Their Connection to Ground Robots

From 2024 to 2028, this project aims to tackle critical challenges in speed, sustainability, and accessibility in the medical sector. By automating the delivery of biological samples in the initial phase, it seeks to improve healthcare services while reducing their carbon footprint.

Code4Goods will be carried out by a consortium led by Innov’ATM, in collaboration with DELAIR, a French drone manufacturer, and ONERA, a renowned research institute.

How Will Drones and Robots Improve Medical Deliveries?

Drones will transport goods over distances of several tens of kilometers using U-space corridors—essentially “highways for drones”—ensuring maximum security for the seamless delivery of biological samples.

Code4Goods will enable a fully automated end-to-end solution. The project’s goal is to free up time for healthcare personnel, allowing them to focus more on patient care in medical facilities.

A Secure, Flexible, and Automated Medical Transport System

With the implementation of U-space, dedicated aerial corridors for drone traffic, drones will be able to operate regular and secure rotations, transporting samples entrusted by hospitals under optimal conditions.

These drones provide a safe, fast, and carbon-neutral method to transport biological samples from collection centers to specialized testing laboratories.

Technological and Human Objectives

The Code4Goods project focuses on automating the medical logistics chain through:

  • The establishment of secure aerial corridors (U-space): optimizing the integration of drones into low-altitude air traffic while ensuring a high level of security.
  • Accelerating critical deliveries: ensuring speed and precision, even in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Reducing environmental impact: through innovative and eco-friendly logistics solutions.

With Code4Goods, Innov’ATM and its partners aim to position France at the forefront of technological innovation in drone operations and medical logistics.

“With Code4Goods, we are building a logistics system where drones and robots collaborate to provide eco-friendly and efficient solutions while addressing urban and rural challenges. Innov’ATM is proud to lead this transformation from Toulouse,” said Stéphane Bascobert, President of Innov’ATM.

A Consortium of Excellence

Led by Innov’ATM, the Code4Goods project is backed by the expertise of renowned partners:

  • ONERA, the French aerospace research center, contributes its expertise in aeronautical technologies to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.
  • DELAIR, a French professional drone manufacturer with 12 years of experience, provides the drones needed for the project, offering proven and field-tested solutions.
  • Innov’ATM, a specialist in low-altitude air traffic management (UTM) and France’s first certifiable U-space corridor operator, has been developing solutions since 2017 to safely integrate drones into airspace. Innov’ATM will provide its U-space services to ensure maximum operational security.

A Key Initiative in France2030’s Strategic Vision

This project is fully aligned with the strategic priorities of the France2030 national program. With a total budget of 54 billion euros, this plan aims to boost industrial competitiveness, invest massively in innovative technologies, and support the ecological transition.

We extend our gratitude to our partners and BPI France for their trust and support.
